Ruud Janssen was born in 1979 in the Netherlands. He makes a living as a business intelligence consultant, by enjoying Chess – where he is titled a Grandmaster – and kayaking.

Ivan Sokolov was born in 1968 in Yugoslavia, now Bosnia. He moved to the Netherlands in 1993 during the civil war in Yugoslavia and has written several chess books.

In 2002, the two met in the Dutch Championship held in Leeuwarden – a nice, small and very old town in the Netherlands. At that time, Sokolov was rated well above Janssen.

We are now 22 moves into the game. It appears as if no one has a clear advantage, but Janssen, in White, has to be very careful now....
